Gilding the Lilly

But I digress. Food was passed, wine was poured, thanks were given and more congratulations handed to the beautiful couple (that blonde and cafe' au' lait was STRIKINGLY beautiful). Turkey, Ham, Salad, veggies, condiments, WINE was consumed in quantity. Stories were told, Angus with his Scots accent was hilarious telling of his growing up in Scotland and then learning to live in OUR crazy country, Leslie adding tidbits that had us laughing 'til our sides hurt. Jean and Eloise were usually our quiet pair but entertained with stories of their latest foray to Canada on a buying trip for their wine business. And Lilly told of how she met her LOVE and how they had been 'passing the time', lately. Well, not in bold detail, but none of us had any doubt about the way their 'quiet time' was spent. The Adults were having 'way too much fun.

Some time later, the table having been cleared and everything cleaned up, the Apartment all spiffy and straightened, again, we sat around with after dinner drinks and had a more subdued conversation, more of getting to know each other and the new member of our ranks. It WAS obvious that Simon was now a vital part of our group of crazies. Yes, he is very intelligent and, like Lilly, he has a wicked and off-the-wall sense of humour. He fit right in. Simon could hold a good conversation on many subjects that we were all interested in. We talked and drank and laughed and suddenly realised that the evening had passed without us know it. Leslie and Angus were the first to excuse themselves, Leslie being the designated driver, this evening. Reluctant good byes offered all around as they left. Eloise and Jean lived in the same complex as I did, in another building, so they didn't need a designated driver. They were quite 'tipsy' (hell, they were blasted) so I made them promise to call when they got to their apartment. (yes, they DID, but it took them 20 minutes to walk the 150 yards to their place, giggling all the way, I am sure.) They are very good friends and playmates and I am very protective of them, and love them very dearly.
