Angel Chapter 4

Angel took the lift to her floor and walked down the long hallway toward her flat. She would have to change her clothing, and she had other things that wanted doing. Hers was the second door from the end, and she thought she saw Lionel unlocking the last door, which would be to the flat on the corner of the building.

"Lionel?" she said, inquiringly. When the man turned to face her, she saw it was someone she had never seen before.

"No such luck," he answered when he saw what a beautiful woman had addressed him. "Is that your flat?" Angel nodded her head.

"Then we're neighbors," he continued, as he approached her and offered his hand. "My name is Harold Carpenter."

"Angel Jones. It's nice to meet somebody after living here for over two weeks."

"It's nice to meet you too, Angel. I'm not really unfriendly or standoffish, but I usually work late, and I mostly just come here to sleep. Since my divorce, it seems like working and sleeping is all I do."

Angel could see why she had mistaken Harold Carpenter for Lionel. Both men were big, over six feet tall, with broad shoulders. Harold looked to be older, with a military appearing salt and pepper mustache and streaks of grey in his hair. Overall, her impression of him was that he was a very solid man, who could be a good friend, and whom she wanted to get to know better. He smiled again, at the very beautiful young woman who was his neighbor, turned away and walked through his door. Angel unlocked her door and entered her flat.
